Stakeholders Task Negotiating Leadership in Nigeria at Merit Time International

Merit Time International organised Award Ceremony and Public Lecture with the theme: Negotiating Leadership in Nigeria: The Leading Element," today in Abuja.

The event is meant to recognize outstanding individuals who have contributed immensely in national building and good leadership qualities

In her address of welcome, Chief Amb. Dr. Olamide E. J., Chairman, Governing Council, MTI, represented by Ms Chioma Nwosu, enjoined citizens to dialogue to assist the government to make decisive decision. Adding that successful leaders ensures there is balance, free from ethnocentrism. She expressed her profound gratitude for the event.

Noting that the organition have mentored youths from different fields of human endeavours. Saying that 15 personalities who have wealth of experience and distinguished themselves in different fields were awarded.

Speaking at the occasion, the Guest Lecturer, Dr Binta Lawal Bagiwa, Education Consultant Nasarawa State University, said a leader is a person others opt to follow to a place they would not have gone by themselves. Leadership is the ability to get extra ordinary thing done by ordinary people.

She described corruption as a cankaworm that has eating deep in the fabrics of the system, she enjoined the audience to participate and air their views.

Narrating the story of Prophet Samuel, David and Jesus Christ she enlightened the participants on the significance of exemplary leadership.

Dr Binta, who said essential qualities of leadership, includes competence, commitment, communication, follow through, active enrollment, active support, Self awareness also said it involves responsible risk taking.

Sunday Okwu Ojor, National Coordinator/Editor-in-Chief, Merit Time International, said egotiating leadership involves a leader using strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to guide a team and achieve organizational goals through collaborative decision-making, rather than simply issuing orders. Effective leaders understand the interests of those they lead and find ways to satisfy those interests to achieve common objectives, either in family circle or in an organisation.
