Speaker Abbas mourns Turakin Dawakin Zazzau, Ramalan Yero
The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, GCON, has expressed profound sorrow over the demise of the Turakin Dawakin Zazzau, Alhaji Ramalan Yero.
The late Turakin Dawakin Zazzau, who was the father of a former governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Ramalan Yero, died on Monday, aged 85.
Speaker Abbas, in a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, described the late Turakin Dawakin Zazzau as a patriot, a nationalist, and an elder statesman.
He said the passing of such a compassionate, selfless, generous, honest, and loving human being is indeed a loss not just to the Zazzau Emirate and Kaduna State but also to the entire nation.
Speaker Abbas recalled the late Turakin Dawakin Zazzau's invaluable contributions to nation-building during his days as a foremost civil servant - a testament to his unwavering commitment to public service and dedication to national development.
Born in 1940 in Kaura, Zaria, the late Alhaji Ramalan Yero taught at various primary schools between 1963 and 1967 and later became a headmaster. He joined the Nigerian Railway Corporation in 1968 after a 6-month training programme. He also worked at the UAC International, serving in Kano, Sokoto, and Kaduna, for over 20 years until his retirement in 2000.
After his retirement, he became the chairman of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Barnawa, Kaduna; chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Kaduna State chapter; chairman of the school-based Management Board of Federal Government Girls’ Secondary School, Basawa, Zaria, among others.
He was turbaned as the Turakin Dawakin Zazzau Zazzau in 2009, and has contributed to developmental activities, especially in education, in Zaria and beyond.
Speaker Abbas prayed to Allah (SWT) to accept the soul of the late Turakin Dawakin Zazzau and make Jannatul Firdaus his final abode.
