NYSC to Deepen Skills Acquisition, Value Reorientation in 2026 Batch B Orientation Course

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reiterated its commitment to equipping young Nigerians with practical skills, positive values, and a stronger sense of citizenship as preparations intensify for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course.

Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made this known on Thursday while delivering a keynote address at the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Orientation Course Workshop in Abuja.

Nafiu described the orientation course as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, stressing that it must continue to serve as a platform for impactful engagement, character development, and renewed citizenship among corps members.

He noted that the increasing number of prospective corps members presents both logistical challenges and opportunities for greater national impact, urging state governments to fulfill their obligations by providing functional and befitting orientation camps.

According to him, a comprehensive review of orientation programmes is necessary to ensure they align with national priorities and contemporary realities.

“Effectively managing this growing number of corps members presents not only logistical challenges but also an opportunity to expand our developmental impact as a Scheme. By aligning orientation content with national priorities, we can ensure that a larger intake yields better results,” he said.

The NYSC boss also charged camp officials to uphold high ethical standards and serve as role models for corps members, warning that misconduct and unethical behaviour would not be tolerated.

He advocated the constructive use of digital media as a tool for community mobilization and civic engagement, urging officials to train corps members on responsible online conduct.

Nafiu further emphasized the importance of security awareness and sustained collaboration with security agencies to guarantee the safety of orientation camps nationwide.

Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Nura Umar, said the workshop was convened to assess previous orientation courses, identify gaps, and develop strategies for improved planning and implementation.

He explained that the theme of the workshop, “Strengthening the Orientation Course to Advance National Priorities and Contemporary Challenges,” highlights the critical role of the orientation programme in shaping the values, conduct, and service experience of corps members.

Umar added that the orientation course remains a vital platform for instilling discipline, patriotism, and national values, urging participants to leverage lessons from past exercises to enhance service delivery and camp management.
