Sen. Adegbonmire Charges Nigerian Students to take Advantage of NELFUND

Nigerian Students have been charged to take advantage of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, (NELFUND). Senator Adeniyi A. Adegbonmire, said this at a media chat with National Assembly Journalists in his office, recently.

Senator Adeniyi A. Adegbonmire is a Nigerian senator Representing Ondo Central Senatorial District and Senate Committee Chairman on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.

He urged students aiming to acquire University degrees to take advantage of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu transformational agenda to reduce hardship and poverty to enable students achieve their dreams.

He said the government understand the situation of the country, as many families can not fend for themselves let alone higher education. It is on this note that the government came up with this initiative to reduce suffering and better the lives of the people.

“The Student Loan Initiative is a program established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to break financial barriers in higher education. Through the provision of interest-free loans, we are fundamentally reshaping the educational landscape.

Adding that the objective was to provide accessible interest-free loans for higher education, to ensure equal access to quality education for all eligible students, to foster a knowledge-driven economy through education.

Senator Adeniyi, reiterated that fuel subsidy removal, currency reforms, and fiscal tightening though painful, were vital to preventing economic collapse. “There is nothing free. Nigerians need to understand that subsidy isn’t magic. Someone pays for it. That someone is the government meaning all of us.”

Noting that the previous administrations perpetuated an unsustainable subsidy regime and irresponsible borrowing, especially during the Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari regime. The misuse of subsidy funds and fuel smuggling to neighboring countries, he said, “More than 60% of the fuel we claimed to import disappeared across borders, paid for by the Nigerian people. He blamed the flawed privatization of the power sector, where companies with no technical expertise acquired assets and later sought bailouts. “The government started subsidizing private businesses, something no country can sustain,”. Senator Adeniyi said.
