Venora Holdings Partners NUJ, Pledges Stronger Support for Media Development

Venora Holdings has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council Correspondents’ Chapel, as part of efforts to boost media capacity and enhance journalists’ welfare.

The Managing Director of Venora Holdings Limited, Mr. Ayodeji Torey, announced the commitment when he received members of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel during a courtesy visit to his Abuja office. He assured the delegation of sustained collaboration aimed at improving the professional and working conditions of journalists across the FCT.

Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, commended Mr. Torey’s philanthropic disposition and his exceptional commitment to staff welfare, describing him as a model corporate leader.

“Mr. Ayodeji Torey has consistently demonstrated an uncommon commitment to human development through impressive staff remuneration, health insurance schemes, empowerment initiatives, vacation sponsorships, and the promotion of sportsmanship,” Ojo said.

He noted that inadequate funding remains a major challenge in the journalism profession, making welfare-driven interventions crucial for productivity and professional excellence.

“Unlike many professions, journalism is not well-funded. In December, we organised a programme tagged ‘Opportunities for Collective Bargaining and Unionism in Place of Welfare’ to strengthen the occupational welfare of our members,” he added.

Ojo further highlighted key needs within the chapel, especially the acquisition of a chapel bus to ease mobility during official assignments.

As part of the visit, the Correspondents’ Chapel presented an Award of Excellence in Workplace Practice to Mr. Torey in recognition of Venora Holdings’ exemplary work culture, which promotes employee growth, competitive remuneration, health coverage, and overall wellbeing.

Receiving the award, Mr. Torey expressed surprise and gratitude, dedicating the honour to his team.

“This award truly came as a surprise. I sincerely appreciate the Nigeria Union of Journalists for this recognition,” he said.

“We do not extend helping hands for recognition, but because it is the right thing to do. This award belongs to my team—they work tirelessly behind the scenes, and without them, none of this would be possible.”

He reaffirmed Venora Holdings’ readiness to partner with the Correspondents’ Chapel on initiatives that would further improve journalists’ working conditions and professional output.
