TMSG Hails FG’s Fiscal Discipline as Sub-Nationals Receive N2.45trn in 17 Months

The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has described the sustained disbursement of ₦2.45 trillion to sub-national governments over the last 17 months as compelling evidence of the Federal Government’s fiscal discipline under President Bola Tinubu.

The group said recent records of federal financial support to states demonstrate prudence, fairness, and a strong commitment to sound fiscal management by the current administration.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, TMSG noted that the release of ₦2.45 trillion for infrastructure and security projects across the states reflects an equitable and non-partisan allocation of resources.

According to the group, between March 2024 and August 2025, the Tinubu administration disbursed the funds monthly to sub-national governments under a special intervention programme drawn from non-oil savings, aimed at accelerating infrastructure delivery and enhancing security nationwide.

“These funds are not part of the regular statutory allocations from the Federation Account,” the statement said. “They were designed to enable states to address critical infrastructure deficits and security challenges, particularly in the aftermath of fuel subsidy removal.”

TMSG recalled that the Infrastructure Support Fund was introduced in July 2023, barely months into President Tinubu’s tenure, as a cushioning measure to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians.

Although a detailed state-by-state breakdown of the disbursements has not been publicly released, the group maintained that no state was excluded, describing this as a clear departure from past practices where access to intervention funds was sometimes influenced by partisan considerations.

“We see this as a strong affirmation of the Tinubu administration’s non-partisan credentials and its commitment to fairness in resource distribution,” the group stated.

TMSG further stressed that the Federal Government has continued to uphold its responsibility to ensure that sub-national governments are not financially constrained, noting that the intervention funds are meant to translate into tangible benefits for citizens across all regions of the country.

While commending the initiative, the group urged state and local governments to ensure that the funds are judiciously utilised, particularly to improve living conditions at the grassroots.

It also called on Nigerians to take greater interest in governance at the sub-national level, stressing the need for public oversight to guarantee inclusive growth and sustainable development nationwide.
