TDF Hails Tinubu, US for Joint Airstrikes on Terrorists in Sokoto

The Democratic Front (TDF) has welcomed the joint military operations between the United States and Nigeria that culminated in precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in Sokoto State, describing the action as a major boost to national and regional security.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group said the operation was carried out with the full authorisation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, dismissing claims that Nigeria’s territorial integrity was violated.

TDF described the airstrikes as a positive outcome of sustained Nigeria–United States security cooperation and intelligence sharing, noting that weeks of joint surveillance and intelligence-gathering preceded the strikes.

According to the group, the coordinated action underscored the strength of international collaboration in combating terrorism, adding that President Tinubu approved the strikes after careful consideration to ensure civilian lives were protected.

“It is reassuring that the Defence Headquarters made it clear that the operation was designed to weaken terrorist networks while minimising civilian casualties,” the statement said.

TDF also cited confirmations by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, that consultations were held with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, ahead of the operation, as well as remarks by the US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, who stated that the strikes were carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities.

The group said these disclosures clearly showed that the operation was conducted at the behest of the Nigerian government, countering what it described as disinformation by opposition elements.

TDF further revealed that the Sokoto strikes followed weeks of joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) flights over parts of North-West and North-East Nigeria, and hinted at the possibility of further airstrikes against terrorist enclaves in the coming weeks.

It urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration’s security initiatives, stressing that sustained international partnerships remain critical to ending terrorism and restoring lasting peace across the country.
