SGF Akume Commissions Electric Motor Bikes to Boost FRSC Road Safety, Security Operations
In a decisive move to strengthen road safety enforcement, intelligence gathering and nationwide crime prevention, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, commissioned a new fleet of electric operational motorcycles for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Describing the initiative as a “game-changer,” Senator Akume said the deployment of the Electric Motor Bikes reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s continued commitment to enhancing road safety management and strengthening national security operations. The commissioning ceremony took place at the FRSC National Headquarters.
Speaking at the event, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, mni, described the intervention as timely and strategic, noting that it underscores the uncommon support of President Tinubu, GCFR, for the Corps. He said the provision of the Electric Motor Bikes further amplifies the expanding role of the FRSC within Nigeria’s national security architecture, beyond traffic regulation to intelligence support and emergency response.
According to the Corps Marshal, the motorcycles will be immediately deployed along critical road corridors nationwide to enhance traffic control, enforcement, strategic intervention patrols, escort duties and special assignments—particularly in areas where conventional patrol vehicles face operational limitations. He explained that the improved mobility, speed and visibility offered by the bikes will significantly boost traffic flow management, rapid response to road traffic crashes, highway decongestion and overall orderliness, especially during festive and peak travel periods.
He further noted that with criminal activities increasingly occurring along major road corridors, FRSC operatives have continued to provide early-warning intelligence, emergency assistance, crime detection support and timely communication to sister security agencies. The Electric Motor Bikes, he added, will further strengthen the Corps’ capacity to support ongoing security operations and deepen inter-agency collaboration in the protection of lives and property.
The Corps Marshal also stated that the deployment aligns with global best practices in sustainable, technology-driven mobility. He emphasised that the initiative reflects the Corps’ commitment to innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency while supporting environmental sustainability, describing it as a forward-looking approach to modern traffic management and law enforcement in a rapidly evolving security environment.
