IWD: Comrade Bassey Advocates for Gender Equality

Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, Chairperson NAWOJ charged women to believe in themselves and speak out for their right. She said this at the 2025 IWD.

 According to her, "This year’s theme, "Accelerate Action reflects the global effort to celebrate the achievements of women and to continue the fight for gender equality.

The Chairperson Bassey ita ikpang emphasises the importance of recognizing the significant contributions that women continue to make in all spheres of life. From leadership in politics and business to innovations in technology and health, women are instrumental in shaping the future of the nation .

 "On this special day therefore, we stand in solidarity with women in FCT as we join other women globally to accelerate action and push for gender equity .

 We acknowledge the strides we’ve made, but we also recognize the challenges that remain. 

NAWOJ FCT is committed to continuing the fight for the empowerment of women, ensuring equal opportunities for all, and creating platforms where women's voices are heard and valued.

 underscores the urgent need to bridge gender gaps, uplift rural women, and create a society where all women have equal opportunities to thrive.

THE NEED FOR URGENT ACTION

Women, particularly those in rural communities, continue to face challenges including limited access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and political representation. While progress has been made, there remains a pressing need to take deliberate and bold actions to break barriers that hinder women’s development.

As journalists and advocates for women's rights, NAWOJ FCT is committed to using the power of the media to highlight gender issues, advocate for policies that empower women, and hold stakeholders accountable in ensuring an inclusive society.

CALL TO STAKEHOLDERS

On this occasion, we call on:

Government agencies to implement and enforce policies that promote gender equality and provide sustainable support for rural women.

Traditional and community leaders to champion women’s empowerment and eliminate harmful cultural practices that hinder progress.

Corporate bodies and development partners to invest in skill acquisition, entrepreneurship programs, and healthcare services targeted at women in underserved communities.

The media to continue amplifying women’s voices and advocating for social justice and equal opportunities.

OUR COMMITMENT

NAWOJ FCT remains steadfast in ensuring that women’s issues remain a priority. Through strategic partnerships, media advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives, we will continue to push for the empowerment of women across all sectors.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, let us not only reflect on the challenges but take decisive steps towards creating a future where every woman, regardless of her background, can achieve her full potential.
