FG’s Approval of N48bn for Engineering Workshop Upgrade in 12 Varsities Will Enhance Skills Acquisition – TMV

The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has described the Federal Government’s approval of N48 billion for the upgrade of engineering workshops and laboratories in twelve selected universities as commendable.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the intervention is both timely and necessary given the urgent need to strengthen technological and practical skills among Nigerian graduates.

The group noted that the initiative would be used to rehabilitate and equip modern workshops and laboratories with cutting-edge, industry-relevant facilities, aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical competence in Nigerian universities. �

According to TMV, the intervention will also focus on rehabilitating engineering and technological faculties in the selected institutions, while supporting the upgrade of existing facilities and the construction of new engineering workshops where necessary.

“We acknowledge that the intervention will be used to rehabilitate and equip modern workshops and laboratories with cutting-edge, industry-relevant facilities to bridge the gap between theory and practical competence.

“It is also expected that the intervention will focus on the rehabilitation of engineering and technological faculties in the selected universities.

“Furthermore, the funds will be used to upgrade existing facilities or support the construction of new engineering workshops.”

The group added that the initiative reflects the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reposition Nigeria’s education sector and strengthen skills acquisition as a pathway to economic diversification.

TMV also aligned with the position of the Minister of Education that the high-impact intervention project is a strategic initiative designed to upgrade laboratories, workshops and research facilities, thereby positioning Nigerian universities as hubs of innovation and practical problem-solving.

The group further noted that the Federal Government has also unlocked $552 million under the Hope-Edu programme to accelerate reforms in the country’s basic education sector.

According to TMV, the Hope for Quality Education for All programme, co-financed by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education, supports measurable reforms aligned with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.

It added that these initiatives represent clear evidence of well-thought-out plans by the Tinubu administration to strengthen Nigeria’s education system and equip graduates with practical, industry-relevant skills needed for national development.
