TCN INVESTIGATES TRIPPING OF 100MVA TRANSFORMER AT APO TRANSMISSION SUBSTATION

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the tripping of its 100MVA TR4 transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in the early hours of Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Preliminary findings indicate oil spillage on the red-phase high-voltage (HV) bushing of the transformer.

Consequently, four 33kV feeders — H31, H33, H35 and H37 — are currently out of supply, affecting electricity supply to customers served by the affected feeders.

TCN’s maintenance crew has commenced a detailed investigation of the transformer to determine the exact cause of the tripping and facilitate the necessary repairs and restoration of the transformer.

The Company regrets the inconvenience the incident may cause customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) supplied from the affected feeders.

TCN assures the public that its engineers are working diligently to restore bulk power supply through the affected transformer as quickly as possible.
