Nwanyanwu Outlines Unity-Focused Agenda After Emerging ZLP Consensus Presidential Candidate

The Consensus Presidential Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu, has formally accepted his nomination at the party’s National Convention, outlining an ambitious reform agenda centred on national unity, security, anti-corruption, energy reform and industrial development.

Speaking after his emergence as the party’s flag bearer, Nwanyanwu expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates and members for the confidence reposed in him, describing the nomination as a mandate he would approach with “humility, discipline and a strong sense of duty.”

He said Nigeria was currently facing deep divisions that threaten national cohesion, stressing that restoring unity would be the cornerstone of his administration if elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. According to him, inclusive governance and equal citizenship rights would be prioritised to rebuild trust among Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines.

On security, the presidential candidate described insecurity as a major constraint on economic growth, agricultural productivity and investment inflows. He pledged a firm and coordinated response, including strengthening and properly equipping security agencies to confront criminal networks nationwide. He also warned that misconduct or failure of duty within the security system would attract immediate sanctions under his administration.

He further proposed sweeping reforms to Nigeria’s policing structure, including the establishment of a multi-tier policing system comprising federal, state and community police formations to improve responsiveness and efficiency.

Addressing corruption, Nwanyanwu declared a zero-tolerance stance, describing corruption as a major obstacle to national development. He said his administration would strengthen anti-corruption institutions through legal and structural reforms aimed at enhancing independence, efficiency and enforcement capacity.

He also proposed preventive anti-corruption mechanisms, including comprehensive audits of public institutions and assets to ensure transparency and accountability in public resource management. He emphasized that illicitly acquired wealth would be investigated in line with due process.

On economic development, the candidate identified Nigeria’s energy sector as a critical area requiring urgent reform, noting that inadequate electricity supply continues to hinder industrialization and job creation. He pledged to modernize the national grid, encourage private sector participation and promote a diversified energy mix, including renewable energy sources.

He also highlighted the need to address structural inefficiencies in the business environment, promising reforms to improve the ease of doing business, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and expand access to finance for small and medium-scale enterprises, particularly youth-led businesses.

Nwanyanwu said these measures would stimulate industrial growth, attract investment and create employment opportunities, ultimately positioning Nigeria on a path of sustainable economic development.

He reiterated his commitment to lead a government anchored on unity, security, transparency and economic transformation, expressing confidence that Nigeria could achieve lasting progress under purposeful leadership.

The Zenith Labour Party described his emergence as a step toward strengthening its national presence ahead of the general elections.
