International Youth Day: ACOE Urges Nigerian Youths to Shun Violence, Participate Actively in 2027 Elections

The Association of Corporate Editors (ACOE) has felicitated with Nigerian youths on the occasion of the 2026 International Youth Day, urging them to remain resilient and actively contribute to the development and progress of the nation.

The Chairman of ACOE, Mr. Sola Akingboye, made the call in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja to commemorate the annual event.

Akingboye acknowledged the critical role of young Nigerians in the social, economic and political development of the country, stressing that their energy, creativity, innovation and determination are essential to building a prosperous future.

He, however, called on the older generation, government and other stakeholders to create more opportunities for young people to develop their talents, pursue their aspirations and make meaningful contributions to national development.

According to him, Nigerian youths possess the capacity and ingenuity required to drive positive change, but they need the right support, mentorship and enabling environment to realise their full potential.

The ACOE Chairman also urged young Nigerians to shun violence, political thuggery, cultism and other social vices capable of jeopardising their future.

He warned that allowing themselves to be used to perpetrate violence or other destructive activities for political or personal interests could have long-term consequences on their lives and deprive the nation of the benefits of their talents and potential.

Akingboye further encouraged Nigerian youths to take a greater interest in governance and democratic processes, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He urged them to participate actively and responsibly in the electoral process, including registering to vote, obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), voting during elections and holding elected leaders accountable.

He stressed that meaningful youth participation in governance was essential to ensuring that their interests, aspirations and concerns were adequately represented in national decision-making.

The ACOE Chairman also commended the efforts of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the Ministry of Youth Development for their contributions towards empowering young Nigerians and promoting their participation in national development.

He noted that the efforts of these institutions and other youth-focused organisations deserved sustained support and recognition.

International Youth Day is observed annually to draw attention to issues affecting young people and to celebrate their contributions to society and national development.

Akingboye urged Nigerian youths to use the occasion to reaffirm their commitment to peace, responsible citizenship, innovation, entrepreneurship and nation-building.

He assured young Nigerians that stakeholders across the country, including the media, would continue to support initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for their growth, empowerment and meaningful participation in national development.
