FRSC Recovers Suspected Stolen Vehicle in Ekiti Using NVIS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded another operational success with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS).

The breakthrough occurred on March 23, 2026, during routine manual data uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti. Suspicion was raised when a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area submitted vehicle details with a chassis number that did not align with the standard manufacturer’s sequence for a 2006 Toyota Camry.

Acting on the discrepancy, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the anomaly and ran the updated chassis number through the database, which returned a match linked to a vehicle reported stolen two years earlier. The original owner was promptly contacted and confirmed the theft.

Following this confirmation, the State Licensing Officer and Sector Commander were briefed, leading to efforts to invite the suspect for verification. When the suspect failed to comply, the matter was escalated to the Nigeria Police.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers from Irewolede Police Station, Ilorin, recovered the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti.

The development underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and highlights the critical role of the NVIS platform in safeguarding vehicle ownership records across the country.

The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to tackling vehicle-related crimes and urged the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details to avoid legal consequences.
