Yuletide Relief on the Highways: Motorists Hail FRSC’s Free Water Campaign
Motorists across major highways have commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its Free Water Campaign, describing the initiative as a timely and humane intervention that provides relief and enhances safety during the busy Yuletide travel season.
The initiative, introduced by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, and implemented nationwide, saw FRSC operatives distributing bottled water to motorists and passengers along key corridors. The gesture helped to combat fatigue, dehydration and stress commonly associated with long-distance festive travel.
Explaining the motivation behind the campaign, the Corps Marshal emphasised its life-saving objective, noting that road safety extends beyond enforcement to genuine care for road users.
“Road safety goes beyond enforcement; it is about caring for the people we serve. A refreshed and alert driver is a safer driver, and if offering something as simple as water can help save lives on our roads, then it is a responsibility we must embrace,” he said.
More than a goodwill gesture, the campaign reflects a forward-thinking approach to road safety, recognising that alertness, wellness and human consideration are critical factors in crash prevention, particularly during periods of heavy traffic.
Motorists and passengers described the initiative as thoughtful, refreshing and unprecedented, praising the FRSC for going beyond routine enforcement to show genuine concern for the wellbeing of road users. Many noted that the exercise eased tension on the highways, boosted morale and strengthened public trust in the Corps.
Beyond providing relief, the water distribution also served as an avenue for road safety education, with FRSC personnel sensitising drivers on the dangers of speeding, fatigue driving, overloading and other reckless behaviours that contribute to road crashes during festive seasons.
The Yuletide intervention has continued to attract widespread public admiration, reinforcing the FRSC’s image as a proactive life-saving agency committed to placing the welfare of Nigerians at the centre of its operations.
As festive travel continues nationwide, the Federal Road Safety Corps has reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to safer roads and safer journeys, while urging all motorists to remain patient, alert and law-abiding.
