TDF Hails Joint US–Nigeria Airstrikes Against Terrorists in Sokoto

The Democratic Front (TDF) has welcomed the joint military operations between the United States and Nigeria that culminated in precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in Sokoto State, describing them as a strong testament to effective international security cooperation.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, TDF said the strikes were carried out with the explicit approval of President Bola Tinubu following weeks of coordinated intelligence gathering and surveillance by both countries.

According to the group, the airstrikes reflect the growing depth of Nigeria–US collaboration on security and intelligence sharing, aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and strengthening regional stability in the West African sub-region.

TDF noted that despite earlier misconceptions about Nigeria’s security situation by former US President Donald Trump, both nations demonstrated maturity and resolve by working together to confront terrorism.

“For us, this operation highlights the value of international collaboration. Although the strikes were executed by US forces on the directive of President Trump, they were authorised by President Bola Tinubu to ensure Nigeria’s sovereignty was respected and civilian lives protected,” the statement said.

The group added that assurances by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) that the strikes were carefully designed to degrade terrorist capabilities while minimising civilian casualties were reassuring, even as full details of the operation continue to emerge.

Countering what it described as deliberate disinformation, TDF stressed that the airstrikes were approved by the Nigerian government. It recalled that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, confirmed he had spoken with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, shortly before the operation, during which both agreed to seek President Tinubu’s consent.

TDF also cited a public statement by the US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, who confirmed that the strikes were carried out “in coordination with Nigerian authorities” and expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s support and cooperation.

“All these clearly show that the operation was conducted at the behest of the Nigerian government. Therefore, claims of any violation of Nigeria’s territorial integrity are baseless,” the group stated.

TDF further disclosed that the strikes followed weeks of joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operations over parts of North-West and North-East Nigeria, describing the action as proof of the Tinubu administration’s readiness to partner with the international community to tackle insecurity.

The group hinted at the likelihood of further coordinated strikes against terrorist enclaves in the coming weeks and urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration’s efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
