Senator Barau Pays ₦7m Entitlements Withheld from Former Kano Municipal LG Chairman

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has paid the ₦7 million entitlement of the former Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Fa’izu Alfindiki, which was withheld by the Kano State Government.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau presented the cheque to the former local government chairman on Tuesday evening at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Presenting the cheque, Senator Barau condemned the withholding of Alfindiki’s entitlements, describing it as unjust and a violation of democratic principles.

“It is unfortunate that his legitimate entitlements were withheld simply because he stood firmly with the APC and the people of Kano State. This is wrong and a clear breach of the rights to freedom of speech and association,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President stressed that constructive criticism remains essential to democratic governance.

“Constructive criticism, such as that offered by Fa’izu Alfindiki, is the lubricant of democracy. Without it, democracy cannot thrive,” said Senator Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.

Reacting, Alfindiki expressed gratitude to Senator Barau, noting that he had no regrets for speaking truth to power.

“I sincerely thank His Excellency, the Deputy President of the Senate and our incoming Governor, In sha Allah, for this support and honour. This action once again shows that the APC is a party that stands by its members and rewards loyalty and sacrifice,” he said.

“From the onset, I was confident that the APC would stand with me. Today, that confidence has been reaffirmed, and I remain deeply grateful,” Alfindiki added.
