Senator Barau Commends Swift Security Response, Calls for End to Banditry

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended security operatives for the prompt rescue of three out of the five persons abducted by bandits in Zurin Mahauta village, Lakwaya town, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The attack occurred on Sunday night when bandits, believed to have come from neighbouring states, stormed the village and kidnapped five residents.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau condemned the attack and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the criminals and rescue the remaining two victims.

“The invasion of Zurin Mahauta village in Lakwaya town, Gwarzo Local Government Area, by marauding bandits is highly condemnable, and these criminals must be dealt with decisively. The good news, however, is that security operatives have successfully rescued three of the five abducted persons. I urge our gallant officers to sustain the momentum and ensure the safe rescue of the remaining two,” he said.

An online report by Daily Trust on Monday afternoon quoted Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, as confirming that three of the kidnapped persons had been rescued.

Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, stressed that incursions into communities in Kano State must come to an end.

“This unfortunate incident must be the last in the series of attacks on our peace-loving people. For weeks, our communities have enjoyed relative peace until this latest incident,” he said.

He further appealed to security agencies to strengthen surveillance and fortify vulnerable areas to prevent future attacks.

“The security of the lives and property of our people remains paramount. I will continue to support our security agencies with the necessary logistics to enhance their capacity and performance,” Senator Barau assured.
