The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) on Thursday hosted a one-day training workshop for pension correspondents and online editors, aimed at deepening media understanding of the agency’s mandate, operations and future plans.

Declaring the workshop open, PTAD Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, expressed appreciation for the consistent support and positive reportage the media has extended to the Directorate over the years. She noted that the collaboration has been instrumental to PTAD’s achievements.

Odunaiya said the training became necessary given the critical role the media plays in shaping public awareness on pension administration, particularly under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS).

According to her, PTAD has worked diligently to transform pension payment processes in Nigeria, and the progress recorded so far reflects years of sustained reforms and dedication.

She explained that participants would be taken through the Act establishing PTAD, its mandate, and the operational departments driving its responsibilities. This, she said, would enable reporters to better understand the institution’s work and communicate accurately to the public.

“Pension management in Nigeria is highly sensitive, and PTAD has remained at the forefront of ensuring that pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme receive the welfare and attention they deserve,” she said.

Odunaiya described the media as vital partners in progress and stressed PTAD’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with journalists, correcting misconceptions, and keeping the public informed about ongoing and upcoming initiatives geared towards sustaining pensioner welfare.

She assured that the Directorate would continue to work closely with the media to fulfil its mandate and maintain transparency in all its operations.
