Plateau Killings Demand Reflection, Decisive Action — Speaker Abbas
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has expressed deep sympathy to the people of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the attack by suspected terrorists as gruesome and heinous.
The assault reportedly claimed the lives of several residents, left many others injured, and resulted in the destruction of property.
Speaker Abbas called for urgent and decisive action by the Federal Government and security agencies, stressing that Nigeria must not leave its citizens at the mercy of criminals and non-state actors.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker noted that the tragic incident calls for sober reflection by all stakeholders and a united response to rising criminality.
He emphasised that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, and urged stronger collaboration among federal and sub-national authorities, enhanced synergy between security agencies, and greater cooperation between government and citizens.
Speaker Abbas also condoled with the families of the victims and commiserated with the Angwan Rukuba community, as well as the government and people of Plateau State.
