NIMC to Begin Nationwide Ward-Level NIN Registration

In line with the presidential directive to take National Identification Number (NIN) registration to the grassroots, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) announces that ward-level enrollment will commence on Monday, February 16, 2026.

This nationwide exercise aims to ensure that every Nigerian citizen and legal resident, including children and adults, is registered in the National Identity Database. Enrollment will be conducted free of charge, supporting the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), which seeks to promote inclusive governance, national development, and access to identity services.

The ward-level initiative is a strategic step to deepen identity inclusion, decentralize services, and bring registration closer to communities, thereby reducing travel burdens and encouraging widespread participation. NIMC urges all Nigerians and legal residents who are yet to enroll to take advantage of this opportunity to register themselves, their children, and other family members.

To ensure smooth implementation, NIMC has engaged stakeholders at the national, state, and local government levels, including traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, faith-based organizations, and local government heads. Awareness campaigns are ongoing to educate the public on the importance, benefits, and use of the NIN.

The ward enrollment schedule, detailing the rotational movement of licensed front-end partners and NIMC staff, is available on the NIMC website: www.nimc.gov.ng. For further inquiries, assistance, or complaints, the public can contact the NIMC toll-free line: 0800 061 6462.
