NCC Moves to Resolve Service Disruptions in Abuja

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the ongoing Quality of Service (QoS) challenges affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja.

According to the Commission, the disruptions are linked to a halt in diesel supply affecting IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation service provider responsible for powering several Airtel and MTN base stations in the impacted areas. The diesel shortage stems from recent activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted supply and triggered outages across multiple telecom sites.

The NCC said it is working closely with major stakeholders and licensees to address the situation, noting that reliable power supply remains crucial to maintaining optimal telecommunication services nationwide.

The Commission added that it is actively engaging all relevant parties to remove bottlenecks in the fuel supply chain and to develop more sustainable, long-term solutions. It urged NOGASA and other stakeholders to collaborate in resolving the disruptions swiftly, given the importance of stable communication services to national life and economic activities.

Despite the challenges, the NCC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of the telecom sector. It said proactive steps are being taken to facilitate dialogue between affected service providers and diesel suppliers to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
