FRSC, NIMC Deepen Data Integration Drive to Boost National Security, Road Safety

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to strengthening national security and road safety through enhanced data integration, following a high-level strategic engagement with the Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote.

Speaking during the meeting, the Corps Marshal emphasised the urgent need for robust data harmonisation among government institutions to build a secure and intelligent nation where individuals can be accurately identified. He noted that credible identity management remains central to effective law enforcement, crash reduction strategies, and sustainable national planning.

He commended NIMC for its significant progress in expanding Nigeria’s identity database and strengthening the National Identification Number (NIN) ecosystem.

Reiterating the Corps’ resolve, the Corps Marshal disclosed that FRSC will continue to adopt and enforce the NIN as a mandatory requirement for vehicle registration and the issuance of the National Driver’s Licence. He described the initiative as a critical step toward sanitising the motoring environment and enhancing traceability within the road transport sector.

He also advocated for the inclusion of FRSC in NIMC’s Annual Identity Forum, stressing that the Corps serves as a frontline identity manager through its driver licensing and vehicle registration processes.

According to him, closer institutional collaboration will accelerate innovation, improve data accuracy, and enhance operational efficiency across agencies.

In her remarks, the NIMC Director General pledged the Commission’s unwavering commitment to partner with FRSC in critical areas, particularly data integration initiatives that support crash reduction efforts and broader national security objectives.

She expressed appreciation to the Corps Marshal for the transformation and modernisation witnessed in the Corps, affirming that sustained strategic synergy between both institutions will deliver far-reaching benefits for Nigeria.

The meeting marks another milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to build a harmonised, technology-driven identity architecture that strengthens governance, promotes accountability, and safeguards lives on Nigerian roads.
