Alleged Insubordination: APC Group Urges President Tinubu to Reassess Wike’s Role

A coalition of APC stakeholders under the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the continued tenure of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, citing concerns about comments and actions they believe could undermine party unity.

In an open letter dated January 7, 2026, and addressed to the President through the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the groups expressed worry over what they described as repeated remarks and engagements by the minister that appear to challenge the party’s leadership and internal cohesion.

The coalition held peaceful rallies at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja and said it was prepared to continue similar engagements nationwide to draw attention to the issue.

They referenced Wike’s recent comments during a visit to Oyigbo LGA in Rivers State, where he reportedly criticised APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, for alleged interference in state politics. The groups warned that such public remarks may create unnecessary tension and send mixed signals within the party.

The stakeholders further raised concerns about Wike’s ongoing disagreements with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, noting that frequent public exchanges between both leaders could weaken the APC’s standing in the state.

They also cautioned that statements attributed to the minister—particularly the reported claim that “nobody can enter Rivers State”—could heighten regional sensitivities and be misinterpreted as challenging federal authority.

While acknowledging Wike’s political influence, the coalition said allegations that he maintains ties across multiple political platforms while serving in an APC-led administration could create conflicts of interest.

They urged President Tinubu to take timely steps to safeguard party stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our commitment is to strengthen the party, support the President, and uphold national unity,” the statement said.

The open letter was signed by Chief Dr. Emeka Okoro; Dr. Adekunle Balogun; Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf; and Mallam Abdulkareem Isiaka.
