"All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly rooted across the country, enjoys the overwhelming support of Nigerians": Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC) said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will face no real opposition in the 2027 presidential election.
He said this while addressing Journalists at the National Assembly today in Abuja. The former Abia State Governor liken the 2027 presidential election to the just concluded Anambra state governorship election where the incumbent, Prof Charles Soludo swept the poll with ease, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly rooted across the country and enjoys the overwhelming support of Nigerians90, insisting that the President’s policies are gradually reshaping the economy and national security.
In his words:
“You know, I’m pro America. So, for anything I will say, know that it will be pro America. Is what Donald Trump said a lie? There is no lie. Because Donald Trump said the truth that Nigerians are being killed, whether they are Christians or Muslims. Are they not being killed?
“If they (bandits) kill people in Plateau State – they go to church in plateau, those they will kill are Christians. If they go to Benue State, the majority of people they will kill in Benue are Christians. If they go to Zamfara State, the majority of the people they kill in the mosque are Muslims. So these people are jihadists. These people just want to destroy Nigeria”.
Continuing, the high ranking lawmaker said, “Let me also tell you that the American president cannot talk anyhow. In my own little way, I have spoken to two former presidents, one Republican and one Democrat, and they all agree that they will help.
“I’ve spoken to about 60 Senators in the US Congress. So they’ve all said, We will help you people. But let me tell you before President Trump says a word, mind you that the American intelligence community must have found out where these people are living.
“And you can see the Nigerian Air Force, possibly from the information that is being given to them by the US authorities, you can see the Air Force in the last three days bombing the homes of these people. And that is what it should be”.
He recounted how he gave adequate attention to security during his time as the governor of Abia State, saying, “When I was governor, you remember I was governor, I formed the Bakassi. And the Bakassi was not about boyfriend and girlfriend. It was about getting rid of criminals.
Kalu reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring the security of Nigerians across the nation.
“So, if it’s there (bandits), we’ll smoke them away. And I can tell you, from everybody serving in this government, from the President Tinubu to the Vice President, everybody is committed to smoke these people away”.
He called on the media organisations and citizens to assist the government in the fight against insecurity.
“But you people who are journalists and community people, should also help the military by telling us who and who are the members of this group that are doing this.
He however counselled that the issue must be approached diplomatically.
“America is the leader of the free world, and as leader of the free world, whatever that President says, he does it, and we are working diplomatically to make sure that we put our house in order.
He disclosed that the incidents the US government has used to make claims of Christians genocide in Nigeria did not happen in President Tinubu’s administration.
“It was another president on set, and that is the truth. So I do not see any reason Nigerians are clapping hard. Our political opponents are thinking they are going to punish the government. No! They are going to go after the jihadists.
When pressed on whether President Tinubu will win the 2027 election, he retorted “Does he have anyone contesting against him? The election is Tinubu versus Tinubu, just like it was Soludo versus Soludo in the Anambra election.
