ACOE Honours Hon. Ehindero as Lawmaker Pledges Collaboration with Online Editors to Drive National Development

The lawmaker representing Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeoluwa Babajide Ehindero, has described the media as a critical partner in advancing national development, assuring of his readiness to work closely with the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE).

Hon. Ehindero, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing, made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving members of ACOE during a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly.

He commended the association for promoting professionalism, ethics and responsible journalism within the online media space, noting that such values are essential for strengthening democracy and national growth.

Reflecting on his political journey to the National Assembly, Ehindero acknowledged the immense support he received from journalists at both state and national levels.

“Let me welcome you once again to the National Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives under the leadership of the Speaker, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD. The leadership of the House has shown that young people can be entrusted with significant responsibilities, which demonstrates its commitment to nurturing emerging leaders,” he said.

According to him, effective governance cannot be achieved without a strong partnership with the media.

“There is no way we can succeed as lawmakers and politicians without working with the media. Although I naturally prefer to stay away from media attention, my relationship with journalists, especially the support I received during my election, has given me a deeper appreciation of the positive role the media can play in society.”

Ehindero praised ACOE for its innovation and organization within the online journalism space.

“The Association of Corporate Online Editors is a noble organisation. The concept itself reflects innovation, as it brings together online editors under a professional platform. The ethics and values that you uphold are highly commendable, and I look forward to working closely with the association.”

Highlighting some of his achievements since assuming office, the lawmaker said his office has facilitated employment opportunities for over 60 young people across various government agencies and parastatals.

He added that within his first 100 days in office, his team renovated six to seven primary healthcare centres, supplied them with medical equipment, and supported over 350 pregnant women with delivery materials.

“These are just a few of the things we have been able to achieve within a short period, and we still have many plans ahead,” he stated.

Ehindero also disclosed plans for a major empowerment programme in the coming months, expressing optimism that ACOE would play a key role in promoting the initiative.

“Now that we have established this relationship with your association, we will carry you along so you can see the programmes we are implementing and help amplify the impact through your platforms. Our partnership will continue to grow, and the empowerment programme we are planning in the next two months will be the first major initiative we execute together.”

Earlier, the Chairman of ACOE, Comrade Shola Akingboye, commended Hon. Ehindero for his commitment to youth empowerment and his consistent support for journalists.

He described the lawmaker as a “friend of the media,” noting that his contributions have helped many young people access quality education and opportunities for personal development.

Akingboye noted that collaboration between the media and policymakers is essential for showcasing impactful governance and legislative achievements.

He assured that ACOE would continue to highlight the lawmaker’s efforts in legislative representation, oversight functions, and empowerment initiatives.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the “Champion of Journalists Award” to Hon. Ehindero in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the welfare of journalists and his empowerment initiatives for women, youths, and vulnerable groups in society.

He was also decorated with the symbolic ACOE muffler, representing solidarity and mutual commitment between the lawmaker and the association.
