TDF Disagrees With Peter Obi Over World Bank’s Economic Growth Outlook for Nigeria

The Democratic Front (TDF) has disagreed with the Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, over his assessment of the World Bank’s economic growth outlook for Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group argued that the World Bank’s projections should be considered alongside economic indicators and ongoing development financing initiatives.

TDF maintained that the outlook reflected some confidence in Nigeria’s economic prospects, citing the World Bank’s reported $500 million investment commitment aimed at unlocking $5.79 billion in private financing.

The group also pointed to government interventions, including the reported release of ₦758 billion for pension arrears, as well as programmes such as NELFUND, CREDICORP, SMEDAN loans and the Renewed Hope Housing initiative, which it said were intended to address economic hardship.

While acknowledging the concerns surrounding poverty and the rising cost of living, TDF argued that assessments of the economy should take account of both existing challenges and measures aimed at improving economic conditions.

The group urged Nigerians to consider available economic data and policy developments in assessing the Federal Government’s economic performance and the positions advanced by political leaders.
