TCN Foils Attempted Theft, Recovers Tower Components and Suspects' Vehicle at Bauchi Substation

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has foiled an attempted theft at its 330/132kV Transmission Substation in Bauchi, following the swift intervention of security personnel on Friday, July 24, 2026, at about 9:34 p.m.

Security operatives stationed at the substation intercepted suspected vandals who were attempting to remove critical transmission tower components. On sighting the guards, the suspects abandoned the operation and fled the scene.

A thorough inspection of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to have been used in the attempted theft.

The recovered items and the vehicle have been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.

No equipment was stolen, and no injuries were recorded during the incident.

TCN commends the vigilance and prompt response of its security personnel, whose timely intervention prevented the theft of and damage to critical national transmission infrastructure.

The company also reiterates its appeal to host communities and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
