TCN Clarifies Status of 330kV Transmission Lines Supplying Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that the reduction in electricity allocation to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) was caused by low power generation on the national grid and not by any tripping of its 330kV transmission lines supplying Abuja.

TCN made the clarification in response to a publication issued by AEDC on August 26, 2026, which informed its customers of prevailing electricity supply constraints and attributed the reduction in its allocation from approximately 641MW to 314MW to the alleged tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Substation.

TCN described the claim as inaccurate and misleading, stressing that all 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region are currently in circuit.

The transmission company further stated that no tripping of the 330kV transmission lines supplying the Abuja axis, as alleged by AEDC, has occurred.

TCN therefore clarified that the reduction in AEDC's allocation and the resulting load shedding across its feeders cannot be attributed to any alleged tripping of its 330kV transmission lines within the Abuja Region.

The company reiterated the importance of accurate, clear and timely information dissemination, particularly on issues affecting electricity supply to the public.

TCN reaffirmed its commitment to efficiently transmitting available bulk electricity across the country while maintaining the stability, reliability and integrity of Nigeria's transmission grid.
