Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
Announcing the result of the primary election, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee, Rt. Hon. Laori Kwamoti, declared that Chinda secured 268,497 valid votes to clinch the party’s ticket, having satisfied all constitutional requirements and party regulations.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Ekesunnie Caleb, Chinda emerged as the sole candidate after other aspirants either withdrew from the race or stepped down before the exercise.
Earlier in the day, the APC governorship candidate participated in the voting process in his hometown, Elelenwo, where he was received by a large crowd of party supporters who turned out massively in support of his candidacy.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Chinda pledged to govern Rivers State with the fear of God, uphold the rule of law, and ensure accountability and transparency in governance.
He expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and supporters for finding him worthy of the mandate. He also commended other aspirants who stepped down from the contest, describing their actions as contributions to the peaceful and successful conduct of the primary.
Chinda further assured party members and Rivers people of an inclusive administration anchored on unity and collective progress.
“It is going to be a teamwork. My theme has always been ‘I win, you win.’ The party will sit down and chart the course and process moving forward,” he said.
He also thanked the leadership of the APC for its support and confidence in his candidacy.
