Plateau Must Never Bleed Again: APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, Hails Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Compassionate Visit, Calls for Decisive Action Against Killers

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Plateau State to commiserate with the government and people over the recent horrific and senseless killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

He described the President’s visit as a profound demonstration of responsive leadership, empathy, and national solidarity at a time when the people of Plateau are mourning the painful and unjust loss of innocent lives.

President Tinubu was received by Professor Yilwatda; the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang; alongside former governors, political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders representing various segments of society.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Yilwatda condemned the killings in the strongest terms, describing the attack as inhuman, cowardly, and a direct assault on the peace, unity, and collective conscience of Plateau State. He stressed that the continued loss of innocent lives must no longer be met with routine outrage and temporary responses.

In a statement signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Communications Strategy, the APC Chairman called for deliberate, coordinated, and result-driven efforts by all relevant authorities to ensure such acts never recur in Plateau State or elsewhere in the country.

He urged community leaders to be more vigilant and proactive in identifying and reporting suspicious activities, noting that perpetrators are often embedded within or around communities, exploiting local vulnerabilities to carry out attacks.

“These criminals must no longer be shielded by silence, fear, or complicity. They must be identified, exposed, apprehended, and brought to justice,” he stated.

Professor Yilwatda also charged security agencies to urgently review and strengthen their operational strategies. He emphasized the need to move beyond outdated tactics and adopt intelligence-driven and technology-enabled approaches to combating insecurity.

He advocated for the deployment of modern surveillance tools, including artificial intelligence-powered systems, drones, advanced tracking technologies, and real-time intelligence mechanisms to proactively detect and neutralize threats.

“The protection of lives and property must now be driven not only by manpower, but by intelligence, precision, technology, and accountability,” he added.

Highlighting the economic impact of insecurity, Professor Yilwatda lamented that Plateau State—renowned for its natural beauty, tourism potential, and agricultural strength—continues to suffer avoidable setbacks due to persistent violence.

“No economy thrives in an atmosphere of fear, no investment grows where blood is shed, and no society prospers under the shadow of insecurity,” he said.

He warned that continued violence threatens the state’s socio-economic future, particularly for young people, and called for a whole-of-society approach involving traditional institutions, religious leaders, political actors, security agencies, and community stakeholders to restore lasting peace.

As part of the visit, President Tinubu, accompanied by Professor Yilwatda, Governor Mutfwang, and other leaders, paid a solemn visit to families affected by the Angwan Rukuba attack, offering condolences and reassurance in a moment of national mourning.

The APC noted that the President’s visit goes beyond symbolism, signaling the Federal Government’s firm commitment to addressing insecurity and restoring peace in Plateau State.

The party expressed confidence that the President will continue broader engagements with stakeholders to develop practical, inclusive, and sustainable solutions for peace, justice, reconciliation, and security.

The APC reaffirmed that the lives of Plateau citizens are sacred and non-negotiable, stressing that perpetrators of violence must be decisively dealt with.

Plateau deserves peace.

Plateau deserves healing.

Plateau deserves protection.

And Plateau must never be allowed to bleed again.
