Gbajabiamila Gives Prince Adeyemi 72 Hours to Retract Alleged Defamatory Claims

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has issued a 72-hour cease-and-desist notice to Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew over allegations made during a press conference held on June 25, 2026.

According to a letter dated July 6, 2026, from Gbajabiamila's solicitors, the law firm of Pinheiro LP, the allegations made by Adeyemi were described as false and defamatory. The letter, signed by 'Kemi Pinheiro, OFR, SAN, stated that Gbajabiamila had never met, communicated with, or had any personal or official dealings with Adeyemi.

The solicitors disputed several claims attributed to Adeyemi, including allegations relating to the proposed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, the alleged receipt of funds by proxy, abuse of office, involvement in fraudulent budgetary processes, and other allegations of misconduct.

According to the letter, the statements have been widely circulated across traditional and social media platforms and have adversely affected Gbajabiamila's reputation.

The legal team requested that within 72 hours, Adeyemi should refrain from making further statements considered defamatory, remove all related publications and recordings from all platforms, issue a public retraction and apology with similar prominence in at least five national newspapers and on the same platforms where the original statements appeared, and provide a written undertaking not to repeat the allegations.

The letter further stated that failure to comply could result in legal action, including civil proceedings seeking ₦10 billion in damages, a request for injunctive relief, and other remedies available under the law.

The development comes amid ongoing public discussions surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. The Presidency has maintained that the agency does not exist, while authorities have instituted criminal proceedings against Adeyemi at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on charges including alleged forgery and impersonation. As of the time of filing this report, Adeyemi had not publicly responded to the cease-and-desist notice.
