FRSC Corps Marshal Warns Against Assault on Operatives, Edo Attack Suspect Arrested

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has issued a stern warning to motorists and members of the public against assaulting FRSC personnel, reiterating the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy for attacks on operatives carrying out lawful duties.

The warning follows the arrest of a suspect linked to a violent attack on an FRSC patrol team in Edo State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 11, 2026, when a patrol team from the RS5.1 Edo Sector Command stopped a vehicle for a seat belt violation. In a brazen act, the driver fled while an FRSC Marshal was still engaged in enforcement, and later mobilised a group of commercial tricycle operators who attacked the officers.

During the assault, one Marshal was pushed into a gutter and injured, while the Team Leader was also physically attacked. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Through swift collaboration with security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), the suspect was tracked, apprehended, and has reportedly confessed, expressing remorse for his actions.

The FRSC commended the professionalism and rapid response of the security agencies in ensuring the suspect’s arrest.

Corps Marshal Mohammed stressed that assaulting law enforcement officers is a grave criminal offence that will attract the full weight of the law. While noting the suspect’s remorse, he affirmed that due legal processes will be followed to ensure justice is served and to deter similar acts.

He urged members of the public to cooperate with FRSC personnel and make use of appropriate channels for complaints or grievances, rather than resorting to violence.

The injured Marshal is currently in stable condition and receiving medical care.

The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring road safety, protecting its personnel, and working with relevant stakeholders to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all perpetrators of violence against its operatives.
