EID EL-KABIR: FRSC DEPLOYS OVER 30,000 PERSONNEL FOR NATIONWIDE SPECIAL PATROL OPERATIONS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced nationwide Special Patrol Operations ahead of the 2026 Eid El-Kabir celebrations, deploying over 30,000 personnel comprising Regular and Special Marshals to ensure safer roads, hitch-free movement, and prompt emergency response across the country.

The special operations, which began on 25 May and will run through 31 May 2026, form part of the Corps’ annual strategic intervention during festive periods aimed at reducing road traffic crashes, fatalities, congestion, and other highway emergencies usually associated with increased vehicular movement during the Sallah celebrations.

The operations are specifically designed to guarantee the free flow of traffic, strategic management of identified black spots and flashpoints, prompt rescue services, immediate clearance of obstructions, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations on all major highways and critical corridors nationwide.

To ensure effective service delivery throughout the exercise, the Corps has fully mobilised operational logistics and equipment, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic control facilities strategically deployed across the federation for rapid response to emergencies and enhanced operational efficiency.

All Zonal Commanding Officers, Sector Commanders, and Unit Commanders have been directed to sustain aggressive visibility patrols and ensure full coverage of identified corridors throughout the period of the operations.

The special patrol will focus particularly on excessive speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, driving with expired or worn-out tyres, passenger manifest violations, and other critical offences responsible for fatal road crashes across the country.

To strengthen enforcement and ensure compliance with established traffic regulations, mobile courts will operate nationwide for the speedy prosecution of traffic offenders, while all emergency response and rescue teams have been placed on maximum alert for prompt response to distress situations.

The patrol operations will run on a shift basis to guarantee 24-hour coverage of major highways, while night rescue teams have equally been positioned at designated operational commands across the country.

Among the major corridors earmarked for intensive patrol and traffic management are the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano corridor, Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi route, Kaduna–Saminaka–Jos highway, Ibadan–Ogere–Sagamu road, Sagamu–Mowe–Lagos expressway, Makurdi–Otukpo–9th Mile corridor, Asaba–Abraka–Ughelli–Warri axis, Okene–Ogori–Owo route, as well as several other identified traffic-prone corridors nationwide.

As with previous critical operations, the Corps will continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, military formations, emergency medical service providers, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen traffic management and emergency response mechanisms throughout the festive period.

The Federal Road Safety Corps therefore calls on motorists to demonstrate patience, discipline, and compliance with traffic regulations by avoiding excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, night travel, overloading, and other unsafe road behaviours capable of endangering lives.

Road users are also encouraged to cooperate with personnel deployed on the highways and utilise the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 and the National Traffic Radio 107.1FM for prompt reporting of crashes, obstructions, and other traffic emergencies.
