Dr Uzoaku Tasks Women on Technology, Empowerment

Women are encouraged to keep acquiring knowledge to enable them become relevant and conversant with the new technology in the society. Dr Uzoaku Juliana Williams, made this known while interacting with Journalists in her office in Abuja.

Dr. Uzoaku Juliana Williams is the Assistant General Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), charged women to update themselves with the new technology to enable them become relevant and conversant with the information age. Decrying that some Women slow down or stop acquiring knowledge from 40 years and above. “Life begins at 40”. She said.

In her words:

“I am actually running an online training which is actually powered by Faith to Action Network. It is an online training that enlighten women on many issues in the society. We are also, collaborating with men to raise gender champions and as you know we need to work together to achieve this.

“God created you because there's something positive God wants you to do. So where building what we call positive masculinity. We are in the fifth model now we were training about 72 women under the network the Champions women. They will become human rights Advocates speaking when there is injustice, they know who to call when there is a problem. It is the project we are running at the moment. We will be rounding up by next month and they will be satisfied to go out there and speak up, become voices for others; go out there to rise to resist every cultural norms that is not working for the betterment of society.’

“We are not quiet, we have our Thursdays campaign-which is every Thursday, we speak up, advocate, engage, share and have opportunity to exchange some things we would like to do differently.” She said.

Dr Uzoaku used the opportunity to enjoined women to empower themselves, get training and discover themselves, their purpose of being created and to achieve their dreams.

While urging everyone to show fellow feelings exhibiting love and kindness to one another. According to her, we need to begin to treat people well, appreciating who we are despite our economic status, tribe or tongue.

She advised the government and stakeholders to always follow up universal periodic report of countries. Adding that the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a UN Human Rights Council process that assesses the human rights records of each UN member state roughly every 4.5 years. It is a state-led, peer-review mechanism where all member states are reviewed on the same terms, aiming to identify areas for improvement in their human rights situations.

Dr. Uzoaku Juliana Williams is the Assistant General Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), National President of the Women Wing Christian Council of Nigeria (WOWICCN).

She is the Secretary Directorate of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue for the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. She is also the UNICEF National Coordinator for End Violence against Children in Nigeria in collaboration with the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN).

Dr. Uzoaku is a member Board of Interfaith Center for Peace and Harmony (ICIPH) situated in Kaduna (jointly run by CCN/JNI in collaboration with WCC/RABIIT Foundation.
