Senate passes Bill to establish Federal University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ondo State

The Senate has passed the Bill to establish the Federal University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in Ondo State yesterday at the National Assembly, Abuja.

The University meant to address Nigeria’s digital skills gap, drive technological entrepreneurship, and elevate the nation’s standing in the global tech arena.

The ICT University is meant to address digital skills in the country and make Nigeria one of the technology hub of the world.

Addressing the Journalists, Distinguished Senator Jide Ipinsagba, the Senator Representing Ondo North Senatorial District, praise God for the Bill, saying it is the Lord's doing. According to him, “it is marvellous in the eyes of all of us, most especially the people from Ikara, Akoko, the people from Akoko and the people from Ondo North Senatorial District. At large, the Ondo State people will be happy to see that the bill passed through the thoroughly today. So we are all happy, everybody in the State is happy, right from the town where the university will be sited, so all of us are happy.” He said.

He also expressed optimism that Mr. President has made everything very easy, as he is interested in education. He said, “he is interested in more universities coming into the country. Because we need that university of information and communication technology because of the specialised nature of that university.

The President is already positioning the nation towards proper alignment in the area of education. So he is encouraging everybody to go to school. He wants more universities to come into Nigeria. So the whole thing will go through the normal process.”

In his words:

“When the bill leaves the Senate, it will go to the House of Reps for concurrent, and after that, it will move straight to the Executive. So from here, we'll be talking of final approval. So I don't think there is an issue.”

University of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in Ondo State is a specialized University that is uncommon in the West Africa.
