ADC Spokesman Lacks Credibility as Renewed Hope Agenda Gains Ground – TDF

The Democratic Front (TDF) has criticised the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, over his comments on the recent fuel price increase linked to the ongoing Middle East crisis, describing his position as thoughtless and lacking credibility.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group questioned the rationale behind blaming the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for developments beyond its control.

“It is sad and regrettable that the ADC’s desperation for power has eroded its sense of responsibility and empathy towards the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

“It is equally condemnable that the ADC spokesman would claim that Nigerians are still waiting for the fulfilment of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope promises, when, in reality, the agenda is already translating into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens,” the statement read.

TDF further accused Abdullahi of hypocrisy for dismissing the administration’s policies while ignoring ongoing interventions.

“We find it irresponsible that Bolaji Abdullahi would overlook key initiatives such as the student loan scheme under NELFUND, which has provided critical support to indigent students in tertiary institutions.

“He has also ignored the significant increase in revenue to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), which has strengthened the capacity of sub-national governments to execute social, economic, and infrastructural projects at the grassroots.

“Notably, before becoming a spokesman for the opposition, Abdullahi himself acknowledged NELFUND as a game changer in a policy piece for Agora Policy,” the group stated.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, TDF pointed to investments in agriculture aimed at enhancing food security, which it said have contributed to a drop in headline inflation from 35 percent to 15 percent.

The group also referenced Abdullahi’s tenure as a minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan, criticising that administration’s economic record.

“It is on record that the administration under which Abdullahi served expended vast oil revenues on importation and was marred by corruption, with little positive impact on economic productivity.

“In contrast, the Tinubu administration has, in under three years, recorded measurable progress across key sectors,” it added.

According to TDF, over 15,000 housing units have been completed for low- and middle-income earners under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

It also cited major strides in the health sector, including the training of more than 60,000 frontline workers, the enrolment of over 20 million Nigerians into the national health insurance scheme, and a 60 percent increase in the annual health budget.

The group urged Abdullahi to refrain from what it described as a campaign of misinformation against the administration.

“We call on Malam Abdullahi to desist from engaging in baseless attacks and misrepresentation, as such actions will not advance the cause of the ADC, which is already burdened by the public records of its leadership,” the statement concluded.
