2027: Kano Ex-Federal Lawmakers Endorse Tinubu’s Second Term, Back Barau for Governor

“We are on a rescue mission,” — Deputy Senate President

Former federal lawmakers from Kano State have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, for the Kano State governorship in 2027.

The endorsement was made on Friday during a courtesy visit to Senator Barau at the National Assembly in Abuja by members of the Kano State Forum of Former Federal Lawmakers, comprising representatives from the Second, Third and Fourth Republics.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Hon. Umar Sadiq, who represented Kumbotso Federal Constituency between 1979 and 1983, said the endorsement was a unanimous decision of the forum.

He disclosed that the group had resolved to mobilise support across Kano State to ensure the success of President Tinubu’s second-term bid and Senator Barau’s governorship ambition.

Quoting Hon. Sadiq, the Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, said the former lawmakers expressed full confidence in Senator Barau’s leadership capacity and performance.

“This is the second time we are endorsing Senator Barau for the governorship of Kano State. He is a respected member of our forum and tops our membership list. We have also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” he said.

“We have no other candidate besides Senator Barau. By the grace of Allah, he will be the next Governor of Kano State. He has been performing like a governor already, and his track record speaks for itself. We urge him to sustain his good work.”

Also speaking, Hon. Idris Isah (Jollof), a former member of the House of Representatives for Nasarawa Federal Constituency, described Senator Barau as a blessing to Kano State and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We are here to reaffirm our endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term and Senator Barau for governor. Senator Barau is a blessing to Kano State and to APC members. The stability and strength of the party in Kano today is largely to his credit,” he said.

In his remarks, Hon. Faruk Lawan, who represented Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency for 16 years, assured that members of the forum would work tirelessly to secure victory for both President Tinubu and Senator Barau in 2027.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the APC, Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki, who is a member of the forum.

Responding, Senator Barau thanked the former lawmakers for their support, describing them as the backbone of Kano politics.

“This forum is my constituency, and it gladdens my heart that you have aligned with the movement to rescue Kano State from its current misrule. This is a rescue mission,” he said.

“Leadership failure has pushed Kano onto a path of decline. The state is being run like a private enterprise, and we cannot fold our arms while things continue to deteriorate. This is not about personal ambition; it is about Kano State. Together, we must change the narrative and ensure that our resources serve the collective good of our people.”
