IWD: Amb. Hon. Ginika Tor Charges Women to support one another in governance, decision-making, political roles

Women have been charged to encourage and support one another. Amb. Hon. Ginika Tor said this in a Media Chat with Journalists on International Women’s Day in Abuja.

Amb. Hon. Florence Ginika Tor, is a Federal Commissioner, Federal Character Commission, Representing Enugu State, urged women to support one another. According to her, women should support and empower other women. It is our duty to help women succeed.

She stressed that 50% of voters are women who are willing to exercise their franchise. She advised them to support and vote for women in leadership positions. According to her, “when it comes to voting period, we are always out. We are passionate about voting.” She said.

Amb. Hon. Ginika Tor who called on women to change the narrative, mindset and heart, also urged them to see each other as collaborator and not competitors.

She discussed the need for women to support each other in governance, decision-making, and political roles, emphasizing that women have the necessary skills and knowledge to change the narrative.

 She talks about the challenges women face in politics, including discrimination and the need to demonstrate competency, capacity, and capability. Highlighting the importance of integrity and supporting fellow women in positions of authority, especially the importance of earning respect and not demanding it, as respect is something that must be earned through actions and integrity.

Amb. Hon. Ginika Tor shared her experiences of supporting other women in politics and the importance of mentoring and empowering other women also emphasized the need for women to be recognized for their contributions and not to be sidelined or marginalized.

International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day to celebrate women's achievements, advocate for their rights, educate and create awareness on women’s empowerment.

The theme for the 2025 International Women’s Day is meant to encourage women’s right, increase their participation in sectors where they are currently underrepresented which include Science, technology, engineering, politics among others. These areas are key to women empowerment.
